MFD responds to three house fires Friday night and Saturday morning
Six people were displaced from their home near S 34th and W Scott Streets due to a fire around 7:15 this morning. The Milwaukee Fire Department reports that the fire was confined to the basement of the home. Damage to the 2 and ½ story duplex is estimated at $90,000 and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Red Cross is assisting four people displaced by an early morning fire in their home at N 1st Street and W North Avenue. The fire was reported around 4:50 AM and was found in the attic of the 2 and ½ story home. The four residents of the home were able to get out safely without injury. The MFD reports there were working smoke detectors in the building. Damage is estimated at $23,800 to the building and contents. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
Two people were able to get out of a fire in their 2 and ½ story home near N 40th and W Vleit Street Friday night. The fire was reported around 9 PM. When Milwaukee Fire fire fighters arrived they discovered heavy fire on the first floor of the wood framed house. According to MFD officials, one of the residents was checked out on scene for smoke inhalation and one fire fighter was treated for a fall due to icy conditions. Damage is estimated at $128,800 to the house and its contents. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
