MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Americans everywhere are gathering Monday to honor the sacrifices made by the men and women of the U.S. military.
One of Milwaukee’s biggest Memorial Day observations is at Wood National Cemetery.
State and local leaders attended the ceremony where stories were shared as a way to remember and honor the nation’s heroes.
Wreaths were placed in memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their names were also read aloud as balloons were released.
“We must maintain the legacy of those who fought and died on the beaches of Normandy, in the jungles of Vietnam, in the mountains of Korea and Afghanistan, in the deserts of Kuwait and Iraq,” Governor Tony Evers said.
Several veteran organizations and community members also attended the event.
