Wisconsin Army National Guard troops stationed in Middle East as operations continue in Iran
CBS 58 WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Members of the Wisconsin Army National Guard are in the Middle East as America continues its offensive against Iran.
During a Pentagon briefing Monday, General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said troops are stationed in Kuwait and Iraq, though he did not say what they're doing there.
"The integrated reserve and National Guard forces have continued to demonstrate the value of America's reserve forces, including the Wisconsin Army National Guard operating in Kuwait and Iraq, and Air National Guard units from a variety of states to include Vermont and Virginia," General Caine said.
The Wisconsin National Guard has confirmed, saying in part:
"The Wisconsin National Guard is currently deployed to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility in support of ongoing military operations, and Operation Epic Fury is no exception."
The U.S. and Israel continued to pound Iran with missiles Monday, two days after the initial strikes that killed Iraq's supreme leader.
President Trump spoke publicly for the first time about "Operation Epic Fury" on Monday. He said it will likely take four to five weeks for the U.S. to achieve its goals in Iran, which he described as removing the threat of Iran's ballistic missiles and nuclear program.
In a post shared on social media Monday, Governor Tony Evers said:
"As we continue monitoring the war in the Middle East, Kathy and I are praying for the health, safety, and safe return of our Wisconsin National Guard members currently supporting ongoing military operations overseas. We urge Wisconsinites to join us."
