MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Police are investigating after a 3-month-old boy and 24-year-old woman were found dead near Teutonia and Custer and a 3-year-old boy was found malnourished.

Officials responded to the home around 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Authorities say the 3-year-old was taken to a hospital.

Police tell CBS 58 it appears the 24-year-old is the mother of both children.

"It’s just sad cause I just seen that girl," said Charmaine Bryant, a friend of the family.

She said it's possible the bodies were in the apartment for up to 2 days before being discovered. "The lady across the hall from us said she smelled a funny smell, whatever death smells like," she said.

Bryant is left feeling uneasy and wants answers.

"I don’t feel safe around here anymore," said Bryant, "I just want to find out what did happen, cause that’s just unsafe, there’s too many people and kids living in this building for somebody to do that."

The circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.
