MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson gave a helping hand at Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) Monday morning, Aug. 25.
Mayor Johnson helped to set up classrooms for students and staff as the first day of school approaches. He emphasized the importance of having clean and safe classrooms, especially after the lead scare in multiple schools earlier this year.
"We are going to make sure that our kids come back to school in a safe, clean environments remediation lead, helping teachers unpack their things so we are ready to go a week from tomorrow when students all across MPS get back into classrooms," Mayor Johnson said.
More than 70 volunteers will assist at five different schools to help prepare for the upcoming school year.
