Mayor Barrett treated after Exhaustion from Running

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett completed a 20-kilometer run on Sunday, but ended up receiving medical treatment for exhaustion.  The Mayor, who is marking his 60th birthday today, participated in an organized run indoors at the Pettit Ice Center that concluded around mid-day.

The Mayor was taken to Froedtert Hospital where a series of tests were conducted.  Health care professionals concluded the Mayor was dehydrated and showing other signs of over-exertion.

Doctors recommended Mayor Barrett stay overnight at the hospital.  He anticipates returning home Monday – and eating his share of cake and ice cream one day late. Mayor Barrett does run regularly, but today’s distance was significantly longer than his typical outing.
