Manitowoc Co. animal shelter seeks donations, volunteers after removing 473 animals from property

MANITOWOC COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An animal shelter in Manitowoc County is in need of help.

On Wednesday, the Lakeshore Humane Society helped the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Department with the removal of hundreds of small animals from a property in Kiel. They say a complaint had been filed over their living conditions.

Staff and volunteers pulled together to remove and relocate 136 quail, 62 birds and 275 rabbits.

The shelter says the quail have been rehomed, but all of the rabbits and birds are being housed in an off-site building while their health is further evaluated.

Lakeshore is asking for donations of money and gift cards to places like Fleet Farm, Walmart and Petco, to assist in the care of the remaining animals. The humane society says they are also in "dire need of volunteers" to help care for these animals.

You're asked to contact the shelter if interested.
