Man with 'pre-existing' health condition forced to find new coverage

Milwaukee -- Changes under the Affordable Care Act mean self-employed Milwaukeean David Todd, will have to find new health coverage.

Todd, 44, recieved a letter in the mail in October that his current policy would be terminated.  His health care plan is through a state based, non-profit, program for people with pre-existing conditions called Health Insurance Risk Sharing Plan (HIRSP.)

It appears this state based program will eventually end, because people with pre-existing conditions can get coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

\"When it came out I knew that the plan was going to end but I didn't know we were going to have all the problems with the health care market place that we're having,\" said Todd who is referring to the issues with the website healthcare.gov.

HIRSP released the following statement on it's Facebook page Thursday:  \"Governor Walker has proposed legislation that would allow HIRSP to extend coverage for an additional 90 days, until March 31, 2014. We are busy preparing a written overview of this possibility to post as soon as we can. Please note that President Obama's announcement this morning has no impact on HIRSP or its members.\"

Governor walker is calling the legislature into special session to extend the deadline for tens of thousands of Wisconsinites to access the federal healthcare system for people who are losing their coverage under Badgercare because of changes the governor made to the program.
