Man sentenced to 15 years in prison for abuse of 13-month-old

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric J. Toney announced Friday that Jason J. Schifelbine was sentenced to 15 years in prison followed by ten years extended supervision after a jury found the defendant guilty of Physical Abuse Of A Child.

In August of 2014, Law Enforcement from the Village of North Fond du Lac Police Department and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin conducted an investigation after a 13-month-old child was flown by Fight for Life after the child was found to be unconscious at St. Agnes Hospital.

A forensic pediatrician testified at trial that the injuries sustained by the child while under the sole care of Schifelbine were highly unusual and provided strong indications of suspected child abuse.
