BROWN DEER, Wis. (WDJT) – The Brown Deer Police Department is looking for a car thief after a Craigslist sale gone wrong.
The car owner says he let his guard down for a second and the suspect drove off.
The owner of the car says the men agreed to meet at the victim’s house to take a look at the 2008 black Ford Edge. He says something felt out of place when he saw the suspect show up on foot.
Despite this, the victim carried on with the meeting, showing the suspect the car. The men even went on a test drive together with the suspect behind the steering wheel and stopped by a gas station.
On the way home, they agreed on a price and that’s when the victim says he let his guard down. When they pulled up to the driveway, the victim got out of the car and the suspect drove away.
The suspect is described as having a thick accent, dark complexion, 5’10” tall, with a low high top haircut.
Brown Deer Police say whether you’re buying or selling you should meet at a public place, like the police department. The department says they have an area designated for online transactions.
Police also recommend not giving up too much personal information, doing research on the person you’re meeting, and trusting your instincts, saying if something doesn’t feel right, it may not be.
