Man Dies After Losing Control on Icy Pavement and Crashing Into Another Car

WALWORTH COUNTY - One man is dead and another man is injured following a two-vehicle crash in the Village of Walworth. 

Walworth County Sheriff's Deputies and Walworth Fire and Rescue units responded to the crash on Highway 14, just south of the Village of Walworth shortly before 7 a.m. this morning. Crews immediately located two vehicles which had crashed in the roadway.

Preliminary investigation revealed a white 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche, driven by 59-year-old Steven Johnson of Fontana was southbound on Highway 14 in its lane of travel. A black 2001 Hyundai driven by 39-year-old Luis Guiterrez-Fernandez of Illinois was northbound on Highway 14 when it lost control on the icy pavement and crossed over into the path of the Chevrolet Avalanche. Both vehicles crashed.

Johnson was transported to a local hospital with injuries. Guiterrez-Fernandez was pronounced dead at the scene by the Walworth County Medical Examiner's Office. The drivers were the sole occupants in each vehicle.
