Man Claims Dog Shot Sleeping Woman

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -(WJXT)  The old journalism adage is that "dog bites man" isn't a story, but "man bites dog is."

Nobody ever said anything about "dog shoots woman."

According to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report, a woman was asleep Tuesday night inside a house on Patou Drive West in the Herlong neighborhood when her dog, Diesel, jumped up on the nightstand. The woman's boyfriend told police the dog caused a Springfield XD40 gun to discharge.

The woman was hit in the leg, and went to Orange Park Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

She told JSO that she didn't know how it happened. She said she was sleeping and was awakened by a throbbing pain in her leg.
