Man charged in Family Dollar store killing going to trial

MILWAUKEE -- The man accused of killing a Family Dollar employee at a store on Milwaukee's south side will go to trial in less than two weeks.

According to the criminal complaint, 26-year-old Wandick shot 44-year-old William Melendez in the head, at close range, during the August 6, 2013, robbery at a Family Dollar near 43rd and Oklahoma.

The complaint says Wandick told the 29-year-old Mikal Jones, the getaway driver, the gun just went off. Wandick's friend says he told her he shot and killed somebody, because his mama needed money.

Wandick appeared in court for his final pre-trial hearing on January 15th. He pleaded not guilty to homicide and armed robbery charges.
