Man charged in connection with shooting that left 1 dead near 38th and Congress

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - Authorities have filed charges in connection to a shooting that left one dead and two wounded on Thursday, May 28 near 38th and Congress. 

Deangelo Dunbar, 36, was charged with first degree reckless injury, use of a dangerous weapon. 

Officials identified the victim of the shooting as 38-year-old Thomas Jones.

According to the criminal complaint, Dunbar entered the residence and began bullying a woman who identified herself as the victim's sister.  A physical altercation led to multiple gunshots being fired from inside the residence, per the complaint. Two other men on scene were shot, a 40-year-old and 36-year-old.

Dunbar was dropped off at Children's Hospital by his girlfriend, then transported to Froedtert Hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to his arm the complaint said. Dunbar's girlfriend reported multiple times during interviews with police he did not tell her anything about the incident and only told her he was shot. 

During an interview with police, Dunbar claimed Jones was drunk and yelled to someone to go get a gun which led to the physical altercation. Dunbar alleged Jones was attempting to pull the trigger when he snatched the gun from him and fired, shooting Jones. According to the complaint, Dunbar said "it was either me or him."
