WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It’s a call animal control might expect in swampy, southern areas of the country, but not here in Wisconsin.
A boa constrictor decided a car engine in West Allis was the perfect place to stay warm and animal rescuers had to get creative to get this snake out.
Cindy Steinle with Small Scale Reptile Rescue says she was heading into work Sunday when she got a message from the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC). There was a boa constrictor on the engine of a car.
Steinle climbed onto the hood and gave the snake a little tickle, and when he finally slithered out, officers were there to scoop him up. Steinle says the boa wouldn't have lasted through a Wisconsin winter, especially as temps have started to dip into the 60s late at night.
“He was staying warm at night, he was insulated under that hood, he was getting a nice warm place to hide but he was also getting a steady diet of rats. So that was keeping this guy healthy," said Steinle.
She says reptiles can become strays too, and some escape from aquariums that aren't designed to safely contain them. If this boa's owner doesn't come forward, he'll be available for adoption in about a month.
