Man Arrested After Firing Rifle at Campers in Town of Wautoma
(WFRV) WAUTOMA - A man is in custody after allegedly firing a rifle at a group of campers in the Town of Wautoma.
The Waushara County Sheriff's Office says they received a call on Sunday around 8:00am from a person who stated their brother had fired a rifle at a group of people who were camping north of Bighorn Drive, between County Road MM and 17th Drive.
The Sheriff's Office says the suspect was walking around the area and had access to ATV's and dirt bikes.
According to a press release, the Sheriff’s Office used a “Reverse 911” System to alert neighbors to stay inside and not to answer the door. Roads in the area were blocked and heavily patrolled by officers.
The release states that at 9:25am, State Troopers at a road block at CTH MM and Bighorn Drive heard a gunshot. At 9:40am, State Troopers at a road block at 17th Drive and Bighorn Drive saw a male walking out of a field onto 17th Drive. The male matched the description of the suspect. He was taken into custody and it was determined he was the suspect in the incident.
Nobody was harmed during this incident.
