Malibu Open returns to Milwaukee's lakefront

The Malibu Open Water ski Championship and Summer Festival returns for the sixth consecutive year on August 28th and 29th at the lagoon in Veteran's Park.

An estimated 10,000 spectators are expected to watch water skiing's top professional and junior athletes as they compete in traditional slalom and long-distance jumping for more than $64,000 in prize money.

Free-style jumping, barefoot skiing, show skiing, picnic areas, food trucks and outdoor activity vendors round out the exciting two-day event, which is open and free to the public.

\"We have the number one skiers in the world here,\" explained professional skier Nate Smith.  \"We have two events, the slalom going on right behind me and we have the jump event coming up later where you'll see skiers jump 240 feet off of a 6 foot ramp.\"

The competition starts up against 8 o'clock Saturday morning and runs until 6 p.m.

There are plenty of food vendors and activities for those who stop by to check it out.
