Madison firefighters put out car fire after owner used hot coals to warm vehicle up

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Madison firefighters responded to a car fire Thursday afternoon after the owner put a baking sheet full of hot charcoal under the car.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, the owner told firefighters his car was frozen and wouldn't start so he put charcoal on a baking sheet and lit it. He then put the pan of charcoal under the car so it would thaw. Five minutes later the car was on fire.

Surprisingly, this is not the first time this week someone tried to warm up their car with charcoal. Madison firefighters responded to another incident where a man set two baking sheets of hot charcoal under his minivan. When firefighters told him it was dangerous he said he "did it all the time."
