Lomira rebuilds after EF-0 tornado touched down last week, after tragedy comes triumph
CBS 58 LOMIRA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Exactly one week after an EF-0 tornado touched down in the Village of Lomira, people in that area are still cleaning up.
“They came yesterday and literally started trimming the tree," said Jaime Rodgers, who's lived in the Village of Lomira for six years. “Try to prevent it from falling, directional fall. And when they come back that’ll probably be the first piece they take down. I woke up to a tree being on my roof and my daughter crying. It was a pretty traumatic experience.”
Around the street, dozens of residents were displaced after the roof ripped off an apartment complex.
“Put together their lives again, their homes, their businesses," said Jenna Rhein, the Village of Lomira administrator.
It was a storm to remember, not because of the damage, but because of how quickly everyone stepped up.
“I came home to some of the stuff being cleaned here. It was quite a wonderful experience," said Rodgers.
Rheim says those who didn’t have power had a place to wait for the storms to pass.
“We just offered the community room for the residents to just relax for a little bit," said Rhein.
Rheim everyone impacted found a place to temporarily call home. Donations are currently being accepted by the Dodge County St. Vincent DePaul to help any community members that were impacted by the storms.
“Right away find shelter. With family or friends or other areas," said Rhein.
Rodgers says this is what community is all about.
“People showing how much they still care," said Rodgers.
Triumph, after tragedy.
“We have the resources, the capabilities, and neighbors helping each other," said Rhein.
