Local Walmart workers to participate in national strike

MILWAUKEE -- Walmart workers and union organizers will strike in more than 20 cities Wednesday with most of the action focusing on what organizers call unfair treatment of pregnant and working mothers by the company.

They started a movement known as \"Respect the Bump\", and say it has already led to changes in the company.

Earlier this year, Walmart announced a new policy that would accommodate women with pregnancy-related complications and help them keep their jobs.

Protesters say it's not quite enough, however, and workers deserve pay of at least $25,000 a year.

Walmart is at the center of a labor complaint that accuses the company of illegally disciplining or firing workers for participating in strikes in 2012 and 2013.

Employees and organizers will continue their campaign Wednesday at a 10 a.m. rally outside of the Walmart Supercenter near 27th and Ohio.
