Local Group Holds Rally for Kids

A local group is working to turn kids away from violence.

It's part of the continuing effort to heal and provide positive experiences for area youth.

Many families showed up to hear from people who've been impacted by violence in Milwaukee.

Kids were also reminded about how important education is, and they got a little help for the upcoming school year with free backpacks and haircuts.

Organizers hope students see that violence is not the answer.

“A lot of things have happened this summer. It's been a crazy summer for these kids. We just want to give them the opportunity to have a woo-sah moment and relax a little bit and go back to school with a positive mentality," said organizer Jose Rodriguez.

The event had music and games to keep the energy going.

Organizers have a similar event planned for December.
