Lawmakers could be required to consider impact of crime bills on minorities before they take action

MILWAUKEE -- A new debate on crime and punishment is shaping up at the State Capitol in Madison.

State Senator Nikiya Harris, who represents Milwaukee, is promoting an effort to require minority impact statements when lawmakers consider new bills dealing with crime.

This means the legislature would have to consider the impact the crime bill would have on minorities before they take action.

Senator Harris joined CBS 58 Monday morning to explain what the minority impact statements are and why they are necessary.
