Latex paint spills into Fond du Lac River
Thursday afternoon the Fond du Lac Fire Department began investigating a yellow substance that leaked into the Fond du Lac River. Hazmat crews spent a few hours testing the liquid to try and determine what substance was leaking.
Shortly before 3:00 PM, fire officials said the spill was 90% contained. It was later determined that the origin of the leak was from the Fond du Lac County Highway Garage. A county worker was cleaning out his paint truck when yellow latex paint got into the storm sewer that flows into the river.
Fire officials have set up a device to stop the sewer water from flowing into the river causing further contamination.
