Late Brewers rally falls short in Cincinnati

The Brewers scored four times in the ninth inning Monday night in Cincinnati, but still fell short 9-6 in the series opener at Great American Ballpark.

Jean Segura had two hits and drove in three runs, including a pair of RBIs on a ninth inning single. Ryan Braun, who was out of the starting lineup for a second straight day, pinch-hit in the ninth and struck out to end the game.

Jimmy Nelson allowed seven runs, all earned, in 2.1 innings. Nelson walked five and struck out only one, and also allowed a two-run home run to Jay Bruce to open the game's scoring in the first inning.

Jason Marquis picked up the win by throwing eight innings of two-run ball.
