MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Komen Wisconsin's More Than Pink Walk will be held in person this year, after the pandemic forced Komen to cancel last year's event.
This year's More Than Pink Walk will take place on the Summerfest grounds in September.
After looking at health and safety precautions, the decision was made to bring it back.
Komen is offering two ways people can participate in the walk, depending on what they feel comfortable with.
The last More Than Pink Walk was held on Sept. 22 of 2019. Five-thousand people turned out in the rain to walk to support breast cancer patients and research to find a cure.
The 2019 walk raised more than $450,000 that stayed right here in southeast Wisconsin. But like so many nonprofits, Komen made the tough decision to cancel the event in 2020 because of the pandemic.
So this year, people have the choice to take part in person or they can still attend virtually.
This year, there is no registration fee. The focus is taking action in the community, so participants are encouraged to fundraise.
Komen uses a lot of that money to support breast cancer patients here in a variety of ways.
The 2021 Komen Southeast Wisconsin More Than Pink Walk will take place on Sunday, Sept. 26. The opening ceremony will kick off at 9 a.m.
CBS 58 is proud to support Komen Wisconsin.
