MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The holidays are right around the corner and a couple of hometown organizations are making sure families have what they need.

Tuesday morning, Oct. 27, Kohl's associates teamed up with Hunger Task Force to pack boxes of food and kitchen utensils specifically targeted for the elderly community in the Milwaukee area.

A member of Hunger Task Force told us there has been an increased need for food distribution in recent years.

"Right now, Hunger Task Force has seen 50% increase in need across our network of pantries over the past three years. The number one driver of this need is rising costs of food, the rising cost of rent, utilities, you name it, it's more expensive -- it's putting a hard strain on families to be able to afford the basics, including food," said Johnathan Hansen, chief strategy officer with the Hunger Task Force.

Kohl's donated everything from air fryers to rolling pins, ensuring families have the tools they need to make holiday meals.
