Kenosha teacher remembered for lasting community impact

Harborside Academy on Facebook

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A longtime Kenosha seventh grade teacher is being remembered by colleagues and students following his death over the weekend.

Dr. David Underwood, a teacher at Harborside Academy, died while on a family vacation, according to a post shared by the school. The school community described Underwood as a mentor, friend, father, father-figure, husband, brother and son.

School officials urged others to live by his example, encouraging acts of joy and connection: “If the space around you appears lonely and quiet, put on some music, sing and dance where others would want to join in.”

On Thursday, June 26, the school is inviting current and former students, as well as family, to gather between noon and 3 p.m. in the auditorium for support, reflection and shared memories.

In a message shared on Facebook, Harborside staff emphasized the pride they feel in Underwood’s legacy and praised the alumni and broader community for their support.
