Kenosha police tweets community safety message ahead of Rittenhouse trial

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A tweet published by the Kenosha Police Department Saturday, Oct. 30, previewed the department's priorities ahead of the highly-anticipated, controversial Kyle Rittenhouse trial.

"KPD wants our community to know that our priority during the upcoming trial is the safety of our community and every person that calls Kenosha “home” or visits our city," said the Kenosha Police Department in a tweet Satruday.

Jury selection for the trial starts Monday, Nov. 1, in the Rittenhouse murder trial.

Community leaders gathered Friday night, Oct. 29, with many gatherers praying for the family members of the men who lost their lives in the shooting and hoping that Kenosha stays peaceful over the length of the trial.

“Please remain peaceful. We don't want any community destruction,” said Tanya McClean, community activist.
