MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Hugh jackman had a true Wisconsin welcome from start to finish on Tuesday, Dec. 2, as he promoted his new movie 'Song Sung Blue'.

The big-time actor documented a lot of the fun on his Instagram.

His day started with a surprise stop at Milwaukee High School of the Arts.

A spokesperson for Milwaukee Public Schools said he donated $10,000 toward new equipment for the students.

Jackman's next stop appeared to be the Old German Beer Hall on Water Street, where the actor ate chicken schnitzel and learned how to play hammerschlagen.

"Even though I didn't take any photos or videos of him, while we were playing hammerschlagen over there, he was taking a video of me," said bartender, Christian Peterson. "So, I'm just in his camera roll for some reason."

The midday madness happened at Kopp's in Greenfield, where Jackman and director Craig Brewer served frozen custard to 500 fans.

After Kopp's, he went to Kegel's Inn, where Jackman hung out with Wisconsin comedian, Charlie Berens.

"Hugh's like, this worldwide actor that everyone knows. So, to have him come to Kegel's Inn was just a really unique experience," said Kegels' Event Manager Troy Blackburn. "You walk through the door, and your breath stops a little bit."

Then, Jackman went to the 'Song Sung Blue' carpet at the Oriental Theatre and introduced another screening at Marcus Majestic in Brookfield.

The night wrapped with a special after-party at Landmark Lanes, where he sang "Sweet Caroline" with Claire Sardina, the woman who Song Sung Blue is all about - backed up by Milwaukee band - the 5 Card Studs.

"He talked to all the people and was taking pictures with everybody, and it was a buzz," said Jeff Benske, guitarist for the 5 Card Studs. "We finished the song, everybody's cheering, I mean it's, you know, it's a feather in your cap. You get to say that you did this."
