WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A single mom of three says her car was stolen right outside of her apartment complex in Wauwatosa.

“It’s just a lot,” said Alexandrea Buer, who lives in Wauwatosa.

Buer, a mom of three girls says, right now all she can do is take life one day at a time.

"Knowing that this is what’s going to save her life, is what keeps me going."

Her youngest daughter Ava was diagnosed with leukemia in June and has been fighting every day since.

"She already has enough going on, so I don’t want her to ever wonder like why is my mom crying?" said Buer. "Why is my mom upset? My own focus is just keeping her mental health good, because it's hard what she's doing. She’s struggling, even though she's four, she’s still really struggling with what she’s going through.”

Ava is at the most intense part of her cancer journey, needing chemotherapy several days a week. So, Alexandrea says when she woke up Monday morning and discovered her car was stolen, she was devastated.

"Even if she has a fever, like they want us there within an hour and it’s hard," said Buer. "I can call someone but, I don’t know if they’re going to be here in time. It’s just very crucial with her treatment that we stay on task of what we need to do to keep her healthy.

For now, Alexandrea is calling her friends and family, relying on them for a ride.

Not only did she lose her only way of transportation, her daughter lost all of her comfort toys for her appointments.

"Ava loves whatever to bring in the car, always a baby doll," said Buer. "All of her favorite stuff is gone. Her favorite thing that she kept with her for her appointment or you know in the car for her ride like is like gone."

Now, she says in addition to paying medical bills, rent and groceries, she has to worry about how to get a new car.

“It really hit me," said Buer. "I wanted to take my daughter to school and it’s like I don’t have a car. I can’t even go to my own appointment. I can’t even go anywhere, like to the grocery store, any little thing."

She says filed a police report and wants the person who took her car held responsible.

CBS 58 reached out to the Wauwatosa Police Department for more information on the investigation but haven't heard back yet.

There's a GoFundMe to support the family here.
