MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A day after toy retailer Toys "R" Us said it will be closing its doors; customers around southeastern Wisconsin are reacting to the announcement.
“I just think it’s kind of sad,” Cudahy resident Sal Maresh said. “We’ve come here since our kids were little and that’s 40 years ago!”
After 70 years in business, the company is closing all of its nearly 800 stores in the U.S. In September, the company filed for bankruptcy after being in debt for years.
“It’s a shame, just a shame,” Maresh’s husband Bruce said.
Another customer said she’ll miss the retailer, especially around holidays.
“It was kind of a go-to place at Christmas and birthdays,” Milwaukee resident Joy Kilimann said.
CBS 58 reached out to the stores in southeastern Wisconsin, they said they are not allowed to comment on the announcement. One store said they have not been given information about a closing date.
