MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- School supplies are more expensive this year. The National Retail Federation says more parents are shopping for supplies online, but is online shopping saving families money?
CBS 58's Tajma Hall did some price comparisons in-store and online. Overall, shopping online was more expensive than in store. Cliff Robb, consumer science professor at UW-Madison, says this is likely due to supply chain concerns.
"I'm wondering if there's a possibility that online retailers are recognizing that they have the ability to charge a premium at a time when it's difficult to find products in some markets," he said.
Despite online shopping being more expensive for some families, it could be worth it for those looking for convenience.
Another alternative that also provides convenience is ordering curbside pick-up. Stores like Target and Walmart offer curbside or in-store pick-up at no additional charge.
