MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 44-year-old woman near 36th and National on Feb. 5.

According to a criminal complaint, police were called to an apartment building on National Ave around 11 p.m., after a 911 caller stated she received a text message from a man named Mile Dukic, who stated he had killed her mother.

The text message, according to the complaint, read:

“I killed you mom, she was disrespectful and mean talked to dude and told [expletive] the [expletive] up during phone calls and after, I think she dead” [sic]."

Investigators say the 911 caller, along with her boyfriend, rushed to the scene. Thirty-nine-year-old Dukic, who was inside the apartment, did not let them inside -- according to the complaint.

Dukic reportedly said through the door, "I already told you she's gone. I'm not letting you in."

When police arrived, Dukic allowed them inside the apartment and they located Amanda Varisco unconscious and not breathing on the floor.

Officials say no other individuals were inside the apartment and at one point -- while performing CPR on Varisco -- heard Dukic say, " I didn't want to do it."

Varisco was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dukic was arrested.

According to the criminal complaint, during an interview, Dukic described his relationship with Varisco as one that was not a long-term romantic partnership but one in which friends would engage in physical intimacy occasionally. Dukic reportedly told investigators, prior to the stabbing, Varisco received a phone call from another man and indicated she wanted to leave the apartment. Dukic allegedly asked her not to go and they began to argue.

Dukic told officials, according to the complaint, the argument escalated and he punched Varisco, pushed her to the ground, continued to punch her before stabbing her several times in the chest and torso.

An autopsy revealed Varisco was stabbed 22 times in her chest and abdomen and had additional stab wounds to her hands and arms -- indicating defensive wounds.

Dukic has been charged with one count of first degree intentional homicide, use of a dangerous weapon and two counts of bail jumping.

He is due in court for an initial appearance on Feb. 10.
