Illinois students buy steer in Wisconsin for school prank -- but the cow got loose

COOK COUNTY, Ill. (CBS 58) -- Police in Cook County, Illinois were "having a cow" over an unusual situation near a school early Thursday morning, April 27.

Officials received a call about suspicious people running through a neighborhood, along with a steer on the loose.

Officers responded and, with help from a farmer, they were finally able to corral the cow and get it into a trailer.

The steer was taken to Hooved Animals Humane Society.

Police determined it was a senior prank gone wrong.

The students had purchased the animal in Wisconsin in Winnebago County and were trying to take it to school when it got away from them.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.
