Il Mito's Chef Michael Feker helps us grill to our heart's content, the right way, this holiday weekend
WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Your patio grill is the spot to be this holiday weekend. It's even said July 4 is the busiest time for grilling over the course of the entire year.
Chef Michael Feker with Il Mito Cafe in Wauwatosa has a couple of helpful recommendations, including starting with a hot grill, not moving food around, only turning over items once, keeping the lid closed, and never flattening your hamburgers with a spatula. You lose your juices this way. It's advised to put any sauces on during the last five minutes and finally let your meat "rest" at least 5 minutes before serving. Of course, make sure to keep cross contamination in mind. It's better to keep washing or better yet get new dishes and utensils for taking food off the grill and serving.
