MILWAUKEE -- With less than 10 percent of open water on Lake Michigan, we may set an all-time record this year.
Lake levels are expected to be a foot higher this year, but all of the ice has stopped big ships from moving through the water.
Many ships, including some carrying coal, cargo, and well-needed road salt tread the waters of Lake Michigan and arrive at the Port of Milwaukee, so keeping the waters clear and open for travel is a priority.
CBS 58's Matt Doyle went out on an ice breaker in Lake Michigan with the crews responsible for clearing the thick ice.
