Husband mourns the loss of beloved St. Francis teacher, remembers their love story
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Beloved St. Francis Public School teacher Michelle Engman was in a car crash with an alleged drunk driver on Friday, Dec. 6.
She died Monday morning.
As the community continues to mourn this loss, Michelle's husband, Adam Engman says their love story will live on.
Adam shared videos with CBS58 of significant places around the Marquette campus where he met and later proposed to Michelle.
"This is where Michelle and I met," said Engman, showing Lalumiere Hall.
For Adam Engman, it's a love story that has ended too soon.
"I often forgot my worksheets, I think it was a little annoying to her at times," said Engman.
He and Michelle met at Marquette University in 1994 and fell in love.
"This is where Michelle and I hung out a lot, talked for hours and hours," Engman explained in front of the Joan of Arc Chapel.
Just days after her death, he shared videos with us and sat down to open his heart.
"I know that you have made a big difference, you've changed the kid's lives, you've changed my life and all of these other people that have reached out to us forever and you're never going to go away you're always going to be a part of our lives," said Engman.
These are the words Adam wishes he could share with his wife.
"I just never got to express that," said Engman.
He says that Friday afternoon, they were getting ready for a Christmas party.
When he got the call from the officer, he brought their two kids, Adam and Kateri, with him to Froedtert ER.
"As much as they wanted to be with their mom, I allowed it, as difficult as it was to look at her in the bed lifeless on a machine," said Engman.
Michelle was an organ donor.
"She has actually given life to a couple of people I understand on Monday, a couple of people received benefits," Engman explained.
Adam says every morning they had the same routine, when Michelle came back from Mass, she always made him a cup of coffee. When the family got home on Friday, he didn't see she had placed it on his desk that morning.
"It was kind of in a different place which is why I missed it. My last cup of coffee from the love of my life, and I drank it all down. It was cold coffee, but it was the best coffee I ever had," said Engman.
Through the pain, Adam says his faith has helped him forgive.
"I don't harbor any anger it was a mistake, but I would like him to know the pain he has caused," said Engman.
However, for Adam, the memories of their love story will be with him forever.
"On September 11th, 1998, this is where I proposed to her, and she said 'yes,'" said Engman, in front of the Joan of Arc Chapel.
Michelle Engman's funeral service will be this Saturday.
