Hundreds turn out for fundraising event for Jackson Sparks Foundation
WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Friday night, hundreds of people flooded a Waukesha bowling alley to support the Jackson Sparks Foundation at a major fundraising event.
The money raised will help provide gifts and support to children just like Jackson.
Every lane was packed with bowlers at the Foxx View Lanes, and there was a seemingly endless line of pizzas streaming out of the kitchen.
There were also lots of generous people spending their money to help children throughout the Waukesha community.
Sheri Sparks, Jackson Sparks' mom, said, "It's crazy and I know as we get closer to when the band's going to play at night it's going to get even more packed."
Sherri did not expect to run an ever-growing foundation, but after losing her son Jackson in the Waukesha parade tragedy, she gained a desire to help other children just like him.
She said, "Knowing Jackson hasn't been forgotten is key, for me as a mom. With the foundation it tells me we're doing something right."
Sheri said she's not sure how much money will be raised at the fundraiser, or how big the foundation can grow, but she's happy to continue as long as there's a need.
Friday night's fundraiser combined a bowling tournament a raffle, and a concert. The money collected will help provide birthday gifts to children Jackson's age, especially sports equipment.
Sheri was inspired after seeing Jackson play with a new bat. "How happy he was, and how much more confident he was walking out onto the field. If we can bring that to another kid, just by having a brand-new bat or a new glove, or whatever it is, that's what we're trying to do."
There are plenty of ways to contribute if you weren't able to make it to the fundraiser in person.
