Hundreds of local high school students learn about building homes

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Hundreds of local students are getting a rare chance to learn about building homes.

CBS 58 News was there for Friday's 'Building Trades Career Day.'

The Metropolitan Builders' Association is showing students from 27 high schools around at construction sites for future Parade of Homes showcases.

The event held on Friday was in Menomonee Falls.

The kids put on their hard hats and got an inside look at how homes are put together.

"They're actually able to see the construction at different phases in different homes, which is something you don't get to see in the industries. So it's been a very powerful piece over the past few years to be able to bring the students in and get them involved in seeing what goes on behind the walls."

It was the second day of a two-day event.

Other students got to tour a construction site in delafield Thursday.
