Indian Summer festival returns to Waukesha
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Mayor Cavalier Johnson on Wednesday, Aug. 9, hosted Milwaukee's first inaugural "Play Ball event under the Safer City MKE Initiative.
Approximately 2,000 local youth from 25 youth serving agencies attended the Brewers baseball game. Each kid received a free hot dog and drink courtesy of Johnsonville, Coca-Cola, and the Brewers Community Foundation.
Through this initiative, youth are encouraged to practice safe habits while experiencing and enjoying a baseball game before the end of their summer break. One special student was selected to stand on the field and announce the first pitch.
In addition to attending the game, Mayor Johnson will be at Neighborhood House as some of the attendees' board buses to the game.
"Our young people head back to school soon," said Mayor Johnson. "Some as early as next week. It is important to constantly remind them that good and safe practices are necessary and needed as we continue to move towards a safer city."
