Human remains found on Menominee Indian Reservation in October

MENOMINEE INDIAN RESERVATION, Wis. (CBS 58) -- According to the Menominee Tribal Police Department, human remains were found on the Menominee Indian Reservation on Monday, Oct. 30.

The MTPD were notified that a hunter came across human skeletal remains in a rural wooded area on the reservation. 

Forensic experts responded to the scene and determined the unidentified human skeletal remains belong to an adult female. According to police, based on the characteristics of the skeleton, the individual was estimated to have been White or Native American, between the ages of 23-33 at the time of death. The estimated height is between 5'7 and 6'5. 

The conditions of the remains suggest the individual has been dead for at least one, or up to ten years, according to police. 

To date, the individual remains unidentified. 

At this time, there is no indication that the remains match a known missing person from the reservation of the surrounding area, according to police. 

The Menominee Tribal Police Department and the FBI are investigating.
