SHOREWOOD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Shorewood Police say on May 16 they saw a minivan driving on Capitol Driver with the passenger side sliding door open. Police attempted to stop the car but it fled at a high rate of speed before crashing near Hampton and Santa Monica.
The occupants of the car fled the scene but the driver was arrested a short time later.
The driver admitted to being involved in a property theft that happened in Shorewood just prior to the attempted traffic stop. The property was recovered and returned to the owner.

WHITEFISH BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Whitefish Bay Police are investigating after a high speed chase ended on Hampton Avenue Wednesday night.
A CBS 58 viewer sent in photos of the scene where the chase ended near Hampton and Navajo around 9 p.m. Police were searching the area around Estabrook Park for the people in the van that was chased.
Whitefish Bay Police say they did chase a vehicle but would not give specifics of why the minivan was chased.
