High school student in Wisconsin designs and prints prosthetic for puppy

KAUKAUNA, Wis. (WFRV) - A Kaukauna student has improved the life of one lucky dog.

Kaukauna High School Senior Ben Brochtrup accepted a challenge by his engineering teacher Nels Lawrence to design an assistive device for someone with a disability.

The result was of that challenge was a life-changing impact for 3-legged pup, Grey.

After measuring Grey's right paw, which is significantly shorter than the left, Brochtrup designed and 3D printed a prosthetic for Grey.

The design is made up of 20 different modular pieces, which will allow for the device to adapt to Grey as he grows. The modular design will also create a more natural feel for Grey.

Local 5 will be following up with Lawrence, Brochtrup, and Grey's owner veterinarian Dr. Steven Cove for Grey's next fitting on March 16, so stay tuned!
