MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Marcus Performing Arts Center hosted its first ever "Heroes Day" ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 22.
The event honored veterans and local heroes, including frontline workers and first responders, who have played a role in serving the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Retired veteran George Banda says events like these are important to honor the heroes who put their lives on the line.
"These people are putting themselves in harms way each and every day and we must not forget that and when we get a chance to, we must recognize them and honor the," Banda said.
CBS 58 anchor Natalie Shepherd emceed the event.
