MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The family is identifying a little boy shot and killed early Saturday morning.

The little boy is identified as 5-year-old Jamal Anderson Jr., according to his stepfather, Giovonni Kelly.

Kelly created a GoFundMe page to help raise money for funeral services and burial arrangements. In a statement to CBS 58, Kelly described Jamal as a fun-loving kid who loved to dance to music, play and talk on his phone and be a big brother to his 1-year-old brother. He said he had Down syndrome.

"He was a light to anyone who he came around, and I just want my son to have a beautiful home going celebration," Kelly said in the fundraising page.

Milwaukee police said they are still investigating the circumstances of the shooting, but Kelly said the boy was "shot and killed due to gun violence."

Police said the shooting happened just after 1 a.m. Saturday in the 5300 block of N. Lovers Lane Road. Upon arrival, officers located the boy suffering from a serious gunshot wound. Despite life-saving measures, the boy died from his injuries on scene.
