Delavan standoff ends in arrest, multiple charges
DELAVAN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Police have arrested a 41-year-old man following a standoff at the Super 8 Motel in Delavan.
Wigman, allegedly noncompliant and armed, was involved in a tense barricade incident that began late Sunday afternoon, the City of Delavan Police Department reported.
The situation began when the Hartland Police Department requested a welfare check on Wigman after receiving reports he was sending threatening messages to family members. When officers arrived at the motel at around 4:20 p.m., they reportedly encountered resistance from Wigman and heard items being thrown inside his room.
By 4:37 p.m., the Delavan Police Department informed Walworth County Dispatch about the barricaded subject and requested backup from the county's SWAT team.
The area around the motel was evacuated due to potential risk and the SWAT team assumed control of the situation at 4:50 p.m.
After hours of negotiations, Wigman reportedly surrendered at 11:13 p.m. A search warrant was executed, with no weapon being found, contrary to Wigman's earlier claims.
Wigman faces a series of charges including a probation and parole warrant hold, use of a dangerous weapon threat, battery or threat to law enforcement, resisting or obstructing an officer, disorderly conduct, possession of tetrahydrocannabinols and possession of drug paraphernalia.
