Haggerty Museum of Art to showcase a historic journey of Dutch and Flemish masterpieces 🎨

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University has announced an upcoming exhibition, "Image in Dispute: Dutch & Flemish Art from the Haggerty Museum of Art's Collection."

This will be the museum's first display of historical Dutch and Flemish art in over 30 years, curated by Kirk Nickel, PhD, and is set to open Friday, Aug. 25, lasting until May 12, 2024.

The exhibition presents over 50 artworks from the museum's Early Modern collection, shedding light on the profound changes in Low Countries, present-day Belgium, Luxembourg and Netherlands, between 1560 and 1680. This tumultuous era, marked by religious differences, iconoclasm and political division, sparked innovative approaches in art, seen in this display of paintings, engravings, and etchings.

A catalog of selected Dutch and Flemish art pieces from the collection is set to publish this fall in conjunction with the exhibition.
