Gun range instructor killed accidentally by child

WEST ALLIS - Local gun instructors are warning against assumptions about children and firearms after the tragic accidental killing of a gun instructor by a child on a gun range in Arizona.

The 9-year-old girl was handling an Uzi sub machine gun.  The recoil wrenched the fully automatic weapon upward, and the instructor was shot in the head and killed.

Eric Grabowski of the Shooters Shop has seen the video and said the instructor was standing in the wrong spot.

\"He didn't have control of the firearm,\" Grabowski told CBS 58 News.

According to Grabowski the instructor should stand behind a person's right side and have control of the magazine.

Under Wisconsin law there are age requirements to legally purchase certain firearms, but no age limits to teach someone at a gun range.
