MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's nationally recognized urban farm is history. The organization, Growing Power, filed to dissolve last month.
It was where people from the community would come to get their fresh produce at affordable costs. Customers say Growing Power was a staple in the community after being around for more than 20 years.
Some workers say they were told just a few weeks ago that it would be closing. For years, the organization worked to provide sustainable food, hands-on training, and workshops.
Growing Power worked with the Housing Authority to create a community garden.
For customers, this was a place to learn about the foods they were eating. "People really depend on places like this, nearby. There are not a lot of farm places like this in the inner city, it is kind of surprising," said former customer Melvin Watson.
It's still uncertain what will happen to the building. The CEO was not available for comment.
