Group home employee facing charges after stealing debit card, money from resident with Down syndrome

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Racine woman is now facing charges after stealing a debit/card from a group home resident with Down syndrome.

In June, a man reported to the Mount Pleasant Police Department that his daughter with Down syndrome lives in a group home and he believes that one of the employees was using her debit card to make personal purchases without her approval.

The suspected fraudulent transactions occurred between April and May of 2017 at Festival Foods and Walmart.

Officers were able to obtain surveillance footage which shows the suspect, later identified as employee Brenda Irby, using the victim's debit card to make purchases.

Officers made contact with the victim who had a similar wallet to the one shown in the surveillance video as well. She did not give anyone permission to buy anything with her wallet.

Irby now faces two charges of Felony Personal ID Theft and two charges of Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card.
